New Alice in Wonderland Trailer

Okay, so the first trailer was pretty cool, but this:

This is pretty much awesome. I love how we get a lot more of the story in this one. As you can see, this isn't so much a retelling of Alice in Wonderland as it is a sequel.

Do we really have to wait until March?

Haunted Mansion Holiday

As part of my Disney Christmas tribute on my other blog (The Shady Glade) I am presenting a virtual tour of Haunted Mansion Holiday as seen at the Disneyland Resort. Here you'll see most of the narration from the ride as well as corresponding pictures. I hope you enjoy!

'Twas a long time ago
Longer now than it seems
In a place that perhaps
That you've seen in your dreams.
For the story that you are about to be told
Began with the holiday worlds of old.

I know you're curious
To see what's inside.
It's what happens
When two holidays collide.

Welcome, my friends, to our Christmas Delight.
Come witness a ghoulishly glorious sight.
It's time for our holiday tale to begin
There's no turning back now
Please, come all the way in.

Our holiday tale, is a tale that's quite charming
But during this season, it's sometimes alarming.
So relax and reflect, feel free to take pause
While we tell you the tale about dear Sandy Claws

'Twas the nightmare before Christmas and all through the house,
Not a creature was peaceful, not even a mouse.
The stockings, all hung by the chimney with care,
When opened that morning would cause such a scare!
The children nestled all snug in their beds,
Would have nightmares of monsters and skeleton heads!

Now hurry along
As they say, "Look alive."
This is one holiday you will want to survive.

Jack Skellington came here from Halloween Town,
You'll notice his handiwork scattered around.
This year he's decided to play "Sandy Claws,"
But when Halloween creates Christmas you might see some flaws.

Yes, down through the chimney Jack flew like a bat,
Clutching his magical "Sandy Claws" sack.
He ripped open the sack and, in moments it seems,
Created a Christmas you have in bad dreams.

More rapid than vultures, the Mansion was changed,
All was soon covered, adorned and deranged.
And what to your wondering eyes disappears,
It's Jack's little friend Zero - the Ghost Dog Reindeer!

Nothing here was forgotten, it all looks so pleasant,
A coffin, Jack says, makes a fine Christmas present.
A man-eating plant makes a wonderful wreath
As long as you don't get caught in its teeth.

Madame Leota:
On the Thirteenth day of Christmas, My Ghoul love gave to me
13 Rings of Power, Embracing Strength that never ends.
12 Signs of the Zodiac, that Rule the Future and Transcend.

11 Candles Floating, their Scent of Mystery in the Air.
10 Telling Tea Leaves, that Swirled with Secrets yet to Share.

On the Ninth day of Christmas, My Ghoul love gave to me:
9 Magic Crystals, that Sparkled with a force that is Pure.
8 Balls of Knowledge, that answer with a truth that is Sure.
7 Pearls of Wisdom, to keep my Love Bewitched to me.
6 Mystic Mirrors, Reflecting futures yet to be.

On the Fifth day of Christmas, My Ghoul love gave to me:
5 Lucky Charms, to Understand the Right from Wrong.
4 Wheels of Fortune, To Spin their Rich and Golden Song.
3 Life Lines, Extending help to those in need.
2 Passion Potions, That Love and Romance may Succeed.
On the First day of Christmas, My Ghoul love gave to me:
A Star! a Brilliant Star for my Fortune Card Tree!

With some treats and some games, you can make a scene merry,
Why, even a gingerbread house could be scary.
All at once, happy haunts did materialize,
Like a nightmarish painting by Currier & Ives.

A bag full of toys Jack had slung on his back,
They were strange and bizarre - and on the attack!

"Sandy Claws" worked his magic, both outside and in,
But one final touch made his bony face grin.
"Now what better gift on my friends to bestow,
Than a graveyard that's covered in ghostly white snow!"

Graveyard Ghosts:
Boo! Boo! What's this?

We wish you a scary Christmas,
We wish you a scary Christmas,
We wish you a scary Christmas,
And a haunted New Year!
Boo! Boo!

Ho, ho, ho! Ho, ho, ho!

Grim Grinning Ghosts Come Out To Socialize!

What's this? What's this? What's this?
Jolly dear old Sandy Claws,
While the graveyard sleeps,
Down the chimney dark and damp,
With your sack of creeps,
Happy haunts materialize,
For a swinging wake,
Glowing pumpkins harmonize,
Joyful screams we'll make!

Ho, ho, ho! Ho, ho, ho!

Oogie Boogie:
Welcome to Oogie's holiday tricks and treats.
Round and round she goes. What's your gift? Oogie knows! Ha, ha, ha, ha!
Are you getting a trick, or a treat?
Isn't this fun? I can't wait to see what you get.
It's gift giving time! You get what you get. Ha, ha, ha, ha!
Have I got a present for you! It's all good here.
Sugar and spice, naughty and nice. Have you been naughty or nice?

Sally:
Hurry Back, Hurry Back...

Oogie Boogie:
Hurry back, hurry back. Ha, ha, ha, ha!
Be sure to bring your gift certificate! Ha, ha, ha, ha!
Season's Screamings everyone. Ha, ha, ha, ha!

Sally:
Hurry Back, Hurry Back...

Oogie Boogie:
Don't let the tombstone hit you on the way out!
I've got plenty more tricks and treats in store for your next visit.

Sally:
Hurry Back, Hurry Back...

Thanks to this website for providing the pictures!

No Royal Rebels today

So you may have noticed there isn't a Royal Rebels today. Well, the reason is because there aren't any more! I've caught up to the author at this point. So RR is going on hiatus until more are created. I hoped you enjoyed them!

I know I've neglected this blog very badly in favor of my other project, The Shady Glade. So I'm still going to try and post once a week, but we'll see how things go. Of course, I have a million posts planned for this blog, but things like work get in the way. I don't want to abandon it completely though, so I will still try to post something every once in a while.

Anyway, see you around!

Royal Rebels 11

Episode 11: Talking With Animals
(Click image for a larger view)

The Jungle Cruise is the perfect place to strike up a conversation about talking to animals. Belle is feeling a little left out in the talent department. Meanwhile, Cindy's not so sure Ariel's new friends mean well... Don't worry Cindy, they're only MAN-eating piranhas.

The Jungle Cruise is one of my favorite rides. Up around the corner you'll find Trader Sam, who's found business has been shrinking a little bit lately. So he's going to offer you a wonderful deal: Two of his heads for just one of yours. That's right. Any way you slice it you come up ahead.

Ooh! No I didn't! Yeah, I know. But I couldn't help it. :)

Learn about Copyright

Now, now. Don't be scared off by the title. In going through my Shady Glade blog archives to prepare for my blogoversary next month, I came upon this video that I had posted over two years ago. I love it enough that I think it's time to share it again.

It uses clips from Disney movies (which is why I'm posting it here) to teach about copyright law. So enjoy it, because it's both fun AND educational!

Royal Rebels 5

I'm so excited for this week. This is probably my favorite comic in the series so far:
Episode 5: Rides at Fantasyland
(Click image for a larger view)

Every ride a princess could want to go on... but never had the chance to until now. Got to love Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Ariel likes driving way too much. Has Jasmine been spotted by one of her fans? Will Snow ever get over her motion sickness? Does Belle ever not have a book in her hand? And will Peter Pan's Flight ever have a Fastpass like WDW? Come back next week to find out (well, maybe not about the Fastpass...)

Anticipation

Look what comes out on August 4th:

I'm positively quivering with anticipation! Which you probably hear a lot here, come to think of it. Since I only post about things I'm excited for. :-)

This year makes Haunted Mansion's 40th anniversary (on Aug 9 to be exact). And while I didn't get to go to the big celebration, I'm hoping some cool stuff will come out of it for those of us who no longer live right by the parks. Looks like this issue of Disney Twenty-Three will be just what I'm looking for. I haven't seen a summer issue yet, but the premiere issue of that magazine was amazing. But more about that on another post I suppose.

Back Up and Running!

In case you don't read my other blog, I am now up and running! If you're curious, then the details of the problem can be found on my how to fix a blogger problem post.

Anyway, I hope to be posting more here soon. Got lots of stuff for the upcoming Princess and the Frog for you. You're probably going to be sick of it by November, but I really can't wait.

Royal Rebels posted tomorrow! Come back and see it!

Can’t access my blog to update

Hi everyone. Just a quick note to let you know I’m on an indefinite break from blogging. For some reason I can’t access either of my blogs or blogger to make any changes. I can’t even see what I’ve already posted, and many blogger blogs are not opening on my computer. :-(
So for now I’m on an indefinite break until I can get it figured out. It really bums me out because I had a lot of really cool stuff planned for this week. But right now I can’t post anything. I managed to get this post up because my wonderful brother (who is currently 3 states away) was able to access my account to quickly post this. Right now, the Catching Fire Contest will remain open indefinitely until I can figure out what’s going on.
If you can see this post, please, please, please, comment here so that I can try to figure out how big the problem is. Even if you don’t normally comment or you want to comment anonymously, please (!) consider doing so on this post. And if you have problems commenting, but can see the post, please send me an email at shadyglade AT mail DOT com and let me know. I really need your help on this one!
Thanks for hanging in there. We’ll get this worked out soon (hopefully)!

Royal Rebels

As I hinted last week, today's the first post of the Disney web comic: Royal Rebels.

The Disney Princesses that make their home at Disneyland no longer roam the park like the used to. Instead the Fantasyland theater has been turned into a huge princess meet and greet where you can meet your favorite princess for two seconds before being hurried along. This is now the only area you can see Ariel, since Tinker Bell and friends turned King Triton's Gardens into Pixie Hollow.

So what do the princesses think about this? It's time to find out.

Welcome back!

Despite my best intentions, it always seems like my posting here is sporadic. After all, I don't have work to post about anymore...

So to try and keep at least one thing on this blog alive, I'm going to start a new series next week by featuring a Disney web comic! Here's a sneak peak:

Intrigued? If you like princesses and/or Disneyland, you'll love this comic. You know I love both. :-) I'm very grateful to the comic's owner, who has granted me permission to reprint it here for your enjoyment. I've added a follower widget and a feedreader button to the blog, so you can easily subscribe if you want. That way you won't miss anything.

The first episode will be posted next Thursday, with a new post every week.

Princess and the Frog Trailer OUT!

So you can probably figure out I'm super excited for this movie. Let's hope that it ushers in a new era of Disney hand-drawn animation. If you haven't seen it yet, check out the trailer. My commentary (and spoliers if you haven't seen the trailer)below:

So first can I say: hehe. I like it when she hits him with the book.

Okay, so the one thing that bugs me is that it starts out by saying "75 years of animation" and then only shows clips from the last 15 or so years. Le sigh. Where is all of Walt's classics? Despite that, I really like how they go from pencil sketch to animation. That's a nice effect.

The other thing that bugs me is they are making the idea that the princess also turns into a frog seem like such an original idea. Yes, I'll admit it's unique, but it's been done before. So I think the setting/characters are really going to make the difference on this one.

For some reason, seeing this trailer reminds of a combination between The Swan Princess/Anistasia/Beauty and the Beast. Which is funny because those first two are NOT Disney movies (despite what a lot of people think). The magic swirls remind of Swan Princess, and the prince reminds me of Dimitri, I think. Tianna reminds me of Belle. Not in her voice, of course, but her animation seems Belle-like to me.

All in all, it reminds me of the animated Disney movies I grew up on (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahantas, etc.) So I'm so waiting for this one. I don't think I can wait until December.
