So you can probably figure out I'm super excited for this movie. Let's hope that it ushers in a new era of Disney hand-drawn animation. If you haven't seen it yet, check out the trailer. My commentary (and spoliers if you haven't seen the trailer)below:
So first can I say: hehe. I like it when she hits him with the book.
Okay, so the one thing that bugs me is that it starts out by saying "75 years of animation" and then only shows clips from the last 15 or so years. Le sigh. Where is all of Walt's classics? Despite that, I really like how they go from pencil sketch to animation. That's a nice effect.
The other thing that bugs me is they are making the idea that the princess also turns into a frog seem like such an original idea. Yes, I'll admit it's unique, but it's been done before. So I think the setting/characters are really going to make the difference on this one.
For some reason, seeing this trailer reminds of a combination between The Swan Princess/Anistasia/Beauty and the Beast. Which is funny because those first two are NOT Disney movies (despite what a lot of people think). The magic swirls remind of Swan Princess, and the prince reminds me of Dimitri, I think. Tianna reminds me of Belle. Not in her voice, of course, but her animation seems Belle-like to me.
All in all, it reminds me of the animated Disney movies I grew up on (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahantas, etc.) So I'm so waiting for this one. I don't think I can wait until December.
